The Newest Little Leak

I never know how many people really want to know all the details of the birth story. But I don't want to forget and this blog is mostly a kind of journal/scrapbook for family so here goes.

Here is the low down on the arrival of the newest Leak.

My labor was scheduled to be induced at 6:30 am on April 21st. We show up at the hospital and apparently there had been a baby boom overnight and there were no labor and delivery beds available. So they put me in a triage room until a L & D room became available. We thought this might take a few hours. It ended up taking about eight hours. They started my pitocin around 9 am but did so at a very low level because they didn't want me to end up delivering in the triage room. So even though I was having contractions, they are not all that painful yet. A little side note, the beds in the triage room are not meant to spend eight hours in. They are the most uncomfortable creations ever spawned from the devil. They finally moved me to a real room at 2:30 in the afternoon. Right away they gave me the epidural and broke my water. Breaking my water was quite a production because during the last trimester of my pregnancy I had developed polyhydramnios, which is an excessive build up of amniotic fluid in the uterus. At about 5 pm, they checked me and I was dilated to a five. I told Zach that this might be a good opportunity to run down to the cafeteria to get himself some dinner. Since I still had five centimeters to go, I figured I had a little while. Luckily he decided not to because about 15 minutes later, the nurse noticed on the monitor that the baby's heart rate was acting funny and came back to check me and I was at a ten and it was time to push! I pushed for about 15 minutes and even though the cord was around his neck, he came out pretty easily. Weston Aaron Leak was born at 5:43 pm and weighed 8 lb, 11 oz and was 21 inches long. Overall this was the easiest labor out of the three with the hardest and most uncomfortable part being that horrible triage bed. We are so excited to welcome this newest addition to our family.

Build a Bear for the Baby

When Peyton was born, we took Mason to Build a Bear and he built her a lamb. So this time we took the kids and they chose a puppy for the new baby. They are both sooo excited for this little brother to come. They already tell him everyday that they love him and can't wait to see him. This is one lucky little boy to have such an awesome big brother and sister!

Butterfly Pavilion

The kids had a pretty good time at the Butterfly Pavilion. They had a section with a lot of spiders and other insects, which Mason thought was cool. They even had a tarantula you could hold, although he wanted nothing to do with that. Then Peyton loved the butterfly part, where they are just fluttering everywhere. She even wore her shirt with butterflies on it just for the occasion.

Mason's Sixth Birthday

He chose Red Robin for dinner, and guess who was there...The Real Red Robin himself! Just for Mason's birthday :)
Mason chose a "pizza/movie night" birthday party with his friends.

The concession stand, the kids had fake money that they could use to buy the movie treats they wanted. Popcorn cupcakes to send home in popcorn containers for the goody bags. I cut up mini marshmallows to look like popcorn kernels then painted on yellow food coloring for the butter look.

Christmas in California

The Ghetto Walmart Santa. Mason was not fooled for a minute. Later that afternoon he says to me, "Mom, I don't think that was the real Santa, I could see that his bear was tied on to his face." We saw another Santa with a real beard at Allene's choir concert, but Mason' was not convinced by this one either. He said "That wasn't the real Santa either, his beard smelled like cigarettes." Not cool, fake Santas, not cool. Next year we need to find a legit Santa. Making Christmas cookies for Santa
New Christmas Jammies from Uncle Spencer! Thanks Uncle Spencer!!

Santa found us even though we were at Grandma Great's house in California.

California Vacation

We had a great time in California. We stayed with Great Grandma and Grandpa Lowe, the kids had fun picking oranges with Grandpa Great. Peyton got her first mani/pedi. We spent time with cousins and we went to Disneyland.

CHURRO!!

Princess Tiana
Belle
Ariel

We went to Disneyland on the busiest day in recorded history of the park. It was unreal. We've been to Disneyland a handful of times and never seen anything like it. They stopped selling tickets at 10 am because the park had reached capacity. Mason's favorite ride was Splash Mountain, Peyton's was the "merry go around" Even though it was crazy busy, we still had a great time and were able to ride everything we wanted to. (Except Zach and Mason couldn't do Indiana Jones because Mason wasn't tall enough) The kids were zombies by the end of the night and could barely stay awake to walk out of the park.

Mason's Prayers Were Answered

All that praying for a brother paid off. Its a boy and he has a wee wee. Mason is thrilled....Peyton not so much. When we told them, Peyton threw herself on the floor crying her eyes out. We got it on video, but the video is not cooperating right now. She came to terms with it when I told her we'd take her to Wendy's for lunch. We could not be more excited!
